Our History

Alumnae

More than 200 years ago, in a trying period of France's history, Mother Madeleine Sophie Barat began establishing schools for girls.

At the turn of the eighteenth century, revolution, terror and deprivation created difficult conditions, even for a Saint. Yet, her mission to educate the mind, body and spirit of children prevailed, and her Society of the Sacred Heart has carried the gift of learning to generations of young women around the world.

Recognized today as the "City House" on Atwater hill, The Sacred Heart School of Montreal is part of this outstanding global Network of Sacred Heart Schools spanning five continents and more than forty countries.
