Sacred Heart School of Montreal students rally to support people of Haiti

Our Sacred Heart girls initiated an appeal to their student and parent community requesting that donations be gathered at a Mass of Remembrance and Hope held in the School's chapel on January 19 for the Haitian earthquake victims.

This collection was complemented by an additional student-run activity entitled "From our House to your House -- Re-building Haiti, One Brick at a Time" held on Thursday, January 21. Student leaders ascertained that it cost approximately $.50 to buy a brick in Haiti. In a friendly competition among the eight Houses at Sacred Heart, students challenged each other in a collaborative effort to raise additional funds by "purchasing" bricks. The House Head, representing the house that funded the most bricks toward the re-building efforts, was honoured and crowned Miss Golden Brick.

On Monday morning, January 25 at 8:00 a.m. at The Sacred Heart School of Montreal, the Canadian Red Cross – Haiti Relief Fund was the recipient of the $11,572 raised though these two initiatives demonstrating the power and compassion of our small but mighty Sacred Heart family. This amount will be matched by the Canadian government, thereby bringing the contribution for which we are responsible for generating to just over $23,000! Once again, "Girls, you have made us very, very proud!"
